Second verse, same as the first

Day two dawns, sky red. It is going to be a hot, steamy day.
Unfortunately I have to work! Or fortunately – depends on the POV, right?
Day 2 of jury selection – I will be here but working, please let me know if something occurs!!

Thanks!

Day 1 of jury selection wrapped up about 5:30, but after that, attorneys picked back up on an argument about scientific evidence related to air samples taken from Anthony’s trunk.

The judge will immediately move to the second half of the jury pool on Tuesday to find out first who has a hardship that prevents them from being sequestered for up to two months.

I’ll be watching for a bit this morning…

I really need to get some things done BEFORE next wk, and being that this is such a drawn out, and lengthy process, I’m thinking I’d rather miss some of this, than next week’s actual start of trial…Assuming it actually starts next wk.

I’ll let you know if anything of great importance comes up, or if I find any relevant links to info, k?

Now, don’t work tooo hard, but make sure it looks like you ARE doing something….LOL!

        NO problem, Kim.

They are just going thru the same motions as yesterday…

I believe they are on the second group of folks, and other than JP asking that they’ve FOLLOWED his admonishment yesterday regarding watching news coverage, and or electronic searches, the questions are basically the same as yesterday’s…

Quite a few have been excused….
Lots of people with BAD NERVES and on meds, and/or they have family members that are sick or dying…. Hhmmmmm!

Of course, you have the others who are Sooooooo
INDISPENDIBLE, at their work, that the business they work for, would NOT survive without them… Of course in the next breath, they admit that they are GOING on vacation as well, and well, OOoooops….. Someone IS covering for them!

That one in particular, brought Mason up to OBJECT to him being EXCUSED…. They’ll call that fellow and let him know what time to show up tomorrow….LOL!

Talk about ‘foot in mouth’ – Fool!

        LOL!

      Hardship is one thing….

Evading, and avoiding being called, or accepted, for Jury Duty, without a TRUE, HONEST, and BELIEVABLE ESCUSE is wrong!

Perhaps my opinion lies in my being LE-affiliated, and being part of the Cdn Judicial System. I do recall however; that even as a youngster, before I knew “what I was going to be when I grew up”. I always held firm, that if called upon – It was something one must commit to, and perform, if accepted and chosen to do so.

Yes, within reason, and with regards for Hardship and/or Inconvenience.

      I’m not that un-reasonable.
But I do believe one should, and must give it the ultimate chance, in order for our Justice Systems to prevail, and serve the people, as it should.

I apologize, if that comes across as cold, or as if I’m in judgement of persons –

That is NOT my intention, at all

I agree that a person called should do everything in their power to serve.

I wouldn’t be able to due to the fact that I am a care giver and he relies on me to get him out of bed and dressed every day. There is no one that could fill in for me for that length of time

I sure would like to serve on this one!

It does if you decide jury sequestration for circus acts under the Big Top is a vacay-free hotel and food and transportation…

Some of these jurors should just get on with it as to why its a hardship or that they have formed an opinion! I think some of them did a no-no and checked out the news from last night!

        That’s exactly my feeling also.

Those who DID NOT know about this, got informed QUCIK!

They are coming up with the excuses to not have to serve – Some questionable!

And again – That is why in this case, they should have just done a very brief initial survey!
Weed out the POSSIBLE’s from the NON –

Those who had some knowledge – Got MORE!
And probably FEEDBACK from everyone they knew!

And those SO INVOLVED – Just GOT MORE INVOLVED, and are now facing the choice to say ‘yes’ for potential profit or benefit, or simply to get on the Jury, or’no’, out of fear and consequence of being involved.
I’m sure there are some HONEST and FAIR folk who would take the task seriously, and judge accordiingly.
We must keep in mind, that just getting through this stage, DOES NOT mean that any of them, will actually make it, and be seated on this Jury panel

There is still a long road ahead, to get there!

  6. CptKD
    May 10, 2011 @ 12:24:11

I understand that people have responsibilities, and that this IS an incredibly DEMANDING task to ask of someone who HAS a life, but it still IS, a necessary part of having someone ajudged for the crimes they are charged with!

This needs to be tried, and it needs to be done, soon!

I strongly believe at this point, that they probably should have put out a brief survey to see who was AVAILABLE and who was NOT!

Right off the bat, they could have ‘each’ gone through the list, and selected the ones they wanted to challenge, or those they questioned further.

From there, they would have been somewhat further along, knowing that they had ONLY those AVAILABLE, along with those from the NO GO list, that they wanted to look into some more…

This way, is becoming taxing, and the excuses that are flying around, are almost laughable, in a way!

And please know – I MEAN NO DISRESPECT here, by what I say.

I just think, that under the circumstances, and with it being the ‘grandiose’ event that it is… They’re getting more ‘panic’ people up there that are REFUSING for whatever reason, instead of focussing on a group of individuals who ARE able, and possibly ‘FIT’ to take this on….

CptKD, I’m surprised that there wasn’t a list of questions to fill out by everyone including concerning their stance on the DP. Then, have only those who are for it be questioned. This seems like its a mixture of those for and against it which will slow things down starting tomorrow. That would speed things up. I imagine the hardship question needs to be asked in front of the lawyers so they can question the potential juror further.

I heard that blacks and hispanics won’t be as quick to hand out the DP. I can agree to a degree. I would think that would only be towards other minorities. I hope I’m not sounding racist when I say that I don’t think they would be as cautious if it were a white person who has fingered a hispanic/black person of kidnapping her child. JMHO.

        May 10, 2011 @ 13:15:02

I think they could have weeded out the HARDSHIP issues by survey –

They still could have questioned further, those that they were interested for whatever reasons, and it would have eliminated those that have now had access to media and information on the case right away.

They could have dealt with all the ‘Yay’s and eliminated those immediately with OBVIOUS and UNDENIABLE Hardships.

As for races, religions, etc, in my experience, Blacks and Hispanics, are VERY family oriented… They tend to be, BIG families with three, even four generations still around….

I’ve attended some family festivals with friends of differing races and religions, and some of them are overwhemingly GRAND and very, very tight-knit.
The love just ‘oozes’ all over the place, and they are so ACCEPTING and GRACIOUS… Beyond all the wonderful things that I could go on and on about, and really more importantly –

What I’ve learned is, that no matter the RACES, RELIGIONS, CREEDS, and CULTURES, one thing IS UNIVERSAL!

        And that is that –

        You DONT hurt their babes!

I believe they can – it is called a bench trial

Bench Trial is a trial conducted before a judge without a jury. In such trials, the judge decides both questions of facts and questions of law. Whereas, in a jury trial questions of facts are determined by the jury and only questions of law is decided by the judge. The rules of evidence and procedural methods are the same in both. Specific procedure for bench trial is determined by the applicable state code.

Bench trials are often faster than jury trials because time spent on selecting and instructing a jury can be spared. The defendants may waive their right to a jury trial and may opt for a Bench Trial. However, it is important to recognize that both the defendant and the prosecution have the right to present their case to a jury.

Belich also took note of a change in seating at the defense table: Anthony is sitting away from Jose Baez. They “appeared to have words” yesterday, Belich said, adding that the attorney seemed to tell his client that she was “acting like a child.”

DeForest contrasted a couple of stories: A man who had taken over running the family hardware store for an ill father was dismissed. But a man who recently took a new job and a pay cut to care for a sick daughter is still a potential juror. “Prosecutors asked for that man to be kept around,” DeForest said, because they want someone “who’s had to make sacrifices for his daughter. After all, prosecutors say Casey Anthony made no sacrifices for her daughter and then killed her when she got in the way.”

Did Jose Baez just call me uneducated and ignorant?

“The court of public opinion is the most uneducated court in the whole country,” said lead defense attorney Jose Baez, who claimed much of the state’s evidence against Casey has been misinterpreted.

Exclusive: Casey Anthony attorneys hint at shocker in defense
        —snipped–

The defense team hasn’t even hinted about what story they will tell. But they told me we’re in for quite a surprise.

They should know better – JP has already stated there will be no trial by ambush!

One woman who was part of the dismissed jury pool spoke with WFTV on the way out of the courthouse. She noted that she and several others were voicing their opinion about the case and that no one really wanted to be on this particular jury.

      Kim,
I cannot blame anybody for not wanting to be on this jury.
We the mothers, parents and grandparents as well as most want JUSTICE FOR CAYLEE…but honestly who could among us put 2 months of our lives on hold no matter what reason…and I believe the defense knew this ALL ALONG…I am going to have another temper tantrum…please excuse me why I shout out a not-so-nice word at the back of my property.

You can shout and rant here. I know how you feel. I blame the defense for every second of this travesty. Casey hasn’t got a brain in her head and she believes every lie they tell her. Who knows what bull shit they tell her?

Baez wants to make a name for himself – well, he has

        BOZO

Mason came on board for ‘fun’ and to escort Casey to her freedom on his arm..

Cindy & George – well, we all know what and who they are, don’t we?

        Caylee? Caylee who?

I would sit on this jury, in a heartbeat!

I would put my bias and pre-conceptions aside,
and do my ultimate best, to remain impartial and be the best ‘Triar of Fact’ I could be.

I am sure it would be hard, to look at her day after day, especially once things are revealed that were kept under seal and away from the public, to try and process while being engrossed in the true ugliness of things, I’m sure it would be a difficult place to be in.

Still – In the name of JUSTICE!

And in the name of this child, and her right to this JUSTICE!

I would not hesitate, and with a clear heart, mind and conscious, I would graciously accept being seated on this Jury Group, and I’d even go so far as offer to be the Jury Foreperson!!

        I WOULD do that!

        I would… For Caylee Marie –

Cap and Kim…I so very would be ready and able to do this for Caylee…but I am retired…I have 4 dogs and a cat…my 29 yr old son would be here to take care of them.
But, how many can be away for 6-8 wks…I do not think in our current finacial situation many could…unless they were Rich and or retired…that being said, I still think many would make a way to make it happen…because of this precious baby Caylee and the 31 days…JMO

6 – 8 WEEKS is only an estimate. I bet it will be more like 3 months atleast. What happens when the jurors start to make waves in 8 weeks, demanding they get paid by the State for any overtime. Don’t think that couldn’t happen either. It’s called hostage taking.

“Nobody was told we were not supposed to be talking,” said Lynda Saracino, juror number 2059, who explained that the discussion and speculation about the case went on before the potential jurors entered the courtroom and in front of deputies handling the group.

Just a quick stop by to say that I watched jury selection until time to go for a Dr appointment. I observed the dismissal of the jurors for chatting about the case. I loved the look on Baez and Masons face when they heard the judge dismiss.
