The Death of Caylee Anthony

Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have – life itself.

The case was called “one of the biggest ratings draws in recent memory” and “the social media trial of the century”. Defense counsel charged that Anthony was being tried in the media to her great detriment while she was facing the death penalty. The case has been cited as an example of the unfairness of prejudicial pretrial publicity with the potential for impacting the rights of defendants in the United States.

Since the end of the trial, various movements have arisen for the creation of a new law, called “Caylee’s Law”, that would impose stricter requirements on parents to notify law enforcement of the death or disappearance of a child. One such petition, circulated via Change.org, has gained over 920,000 electronic signatures.

    Wings of Flight
    by Sharon Kortas

    When all was quiet
    And we were sad
    Thinking of the
    Times we’d had

    A butterfly
    Then came to us
    Flew around
    Without a rush

    Showed us how
    He’d been set free
    Drifting off
    Where we can’t see

    Helped us know
    He’s on his way
    We’ll treasure this
    Each passing day.

That poem reminds me of the one butterfly at Caylee’s memorial service (held by Richard Grund at Blanchard Park) that would not take flight but stayed on the flower in the floral wreath. All the others flew away but this one butterfly stuck around.

I guess it doesn’t matter much now.

I sent Rev. Grund the butterflies for Caylee. There should have been more but only the one was strong enough to make an appearance. It went home with him and stayed in his back yard the rest of the summer.

You are so precious! I had no idea that you sent the butterflies. 🙂

I was so sad that they were not all strong but Richard was able to coax just the one along and set it free. Butterflies meant a lot to Caylee and I wanted some there for her.

I have always been fascinated by butterflies – my farm house was full of butterfly art. I even have a tiny butterfly tattoo

Oh, BTW, it still matters-it will always matter. I thought all of the butterflies made it but now I remember that one little girl, Dakota, was sad by the fact that they didn’t fly except that one. She was even worried about that one.

I had a lovely surprise this past Spring. In the Fall I cut down my annual herbs and there was a swallowtail coccoon on one of the stalks. This happens just about every year so I did as I usually do and put it, stalk included, in a large jar (the size for sun tea) and brought it in the house. I was very careful because the little larva can die from sudden jerks and such. Well, nothing hatched before the cold weather so I figured I had killed it. 😥 I transferred it to a small jar and set it on my windowsill in the kitchen and forgot about it-it was just a display now reminding me of my carelessness.

Out popped the beautiful swallowtail when it became warm enough outside. I set in on my bridal wreath bush to get its strength up. It took a few hours before it flew away but I was so happy that it lived. Ofcourse, how long with all of the birds my hubby caters to…

How wonderful!!! I love that!! That is the magic and the mystery of butterflies!!

My favorite of all is the intrepid Monarch butterfly. They migrate!! From far up in North America all the way to Mexico!! It is a sight to see!!

( my tat is a monarch)

Kim — I work with special needs children. One day, while outside playing, one of our little girls was constantly followed by butterflies. They landed on her, and she laughed. It was the first time I had ever seen any sort of reaction from her other than crying or screaming.

What a sweet image, Margaret! I hope she remembers the day the butterflies came to play!

The Quinnipiac University survey of 1,417 Florida voters found a whopping 83 percent supported proposed legislation that would criminalize the failure to quickly report a dead or missing child, while only 14 percent opposed the idea. The support was nearly identical across party, gender and racial lines in the survey.

Acquitted murder suspect Casey Anthony was released from jail on Sunday. What do you think?

She left just two days ago? Huh, that’s weird. You usually don’t report an Anthony’s disappearance for about a month or so.

Ooh, I thought I smelled something different in the air on Sunday! Turns out it was the smell of new beginnings. With just a hint of guilty-murderer-gone-free.

How can we believe this verification? How can we believe anything? Whoever is monitoring Casey-Anthony-Blogdom is getting a mighty belly-laugh at the vulnerable, gullible crowd of us out here. One whisper of rumor is reported as fact or close to…and the hubbub begins.

Now what would dear Lillian say to all this? (you don’t suppose there’s a halloween mask of her around?)

They count the clicks per article and advertise heavily on those articles. Money doesn’t pop into anyone’s hands because you click your mouse. However, they are strong indicators of where and what people are paying attention too

Kim I am telling you the IRS needs to audit all the A’s and
Bozo and his law firm. I believe some if not all have gotten
advances on books or interviews. I hope Bozo pulls his
stunts in a federal court room and ends up in jail!
