Like many chaps round these parts, my general line on Ron Paul was that, as much as I think he’s out of his gourd on Iran et al, he performs a useful role in the GOP line-up talking up the virtues of constitutional conservatism. But this Weekly Standard piece by John McCormack suggests Paul is a humbug even on his core domestic turf: The entitlement state is the single biggest deformation to the Founders’ republic, and it downgrades not only America’s finances but its citizenry. Yet Paul has no serious proposal for dealing with it, and indeed promises voters that we won’t have to as long as we cut “overseas spending”.

As I point out in my book, well before the end of this decade interest payments on the debt will consume more of the federal budget than military spending. So you could abolish the Pentagon, sell off the fleet to Beijing and the nukes to Tehran and Khartoum and anybody else who wants ‘em, and we’d still be heading off the cliff. If a candidate isn’t talking about entitlement transformation, he’s unserious.

I am in favor of a leaner, meaner military, with the emphasis on both adjectives.

ITA, Kim. If we don’t have a strong and fearsome military then we won’t really need to worry about the debt or jobs or preserving free speech…

        Sabre rattling propaganda!

Qandil, who has previously accused Israel of orchestrating the 9/11 attacks on the United States and arming al-Qaeda, said the US was behind recent bombings targeting President Bashar al-Assad’s security services in Damascus attributed to Al-Qaeda.

“The incident reminds us of those cases in which the US and its allies provoked the al-Qaeda elements in the region,” he said.

Qandil’s accusation mirrors that of Lebanon’s Hizbullah, which has increasingly been at dagger points with Washington, who accused the US of carrying out the Damascus bombings itself.

Lebanese opposition figures called the accusations “ridiculous.” Nor did Assad’s government, which is locked in a death-grip with Washington and its allies, accuse the US of complicity in the bombings.

Iran has found itself increasingly isolated as the pool of customers for its primary export – oil – has dwindled amid widespread sanctions stemming from its nuclear program, which Western and Gulf Arab countries say has military ambitions.

Kim, I guess my boy Newt has too much baggage.

Newt has the pitbull attitude we need – I can’t stand Romney, too wishy washy and the lame stream media loves him so he is out for me

      Bachman, nah

Santorum hasn’t got the staying power

Rick Santorum is breath of fresh air. I agree Romney is

Kim, had to post this when I read it.
Thank god for the second admendment. Gun sales in 2011 were at a record
high. But with Obama you never know. I do not own any guns myself but
if Obama remains Occupier in Chief, I will probably have to buy a gun.

Dawg, I have a feeling all those gun sales aren’t about the popular TV show, Top Shot. I think people are feeling like they may need to use their 2nd Amendment right to protect their 1st Amendment rights before the 2nd Amendment gets scrubbed from the Constitution. Of course, I don’t believe any true patriots will allow that to happen, but….

#6 – Gun sales beat all previous records – Sales of firearms were already sky-high in 2011, thanks to Obama’s clever attacks on the Second Amendment (Operation Fast & Furious, pulled off by Eric Holder). In one day alone, Black Friday, a whopping 129,000 firearms were sold across America. Daily gun sales will continue to escalate all through 2012, and I predict that we will see a whopping 20 million guns sold across America in calendar 2012. Most of these sales will be to “preppers” — people who realize something’s coming down and want to protect themselves and their families against the inevitable rise of armed looters. Remember, these are gun sales to legal owners who are going through proper background checks and legally acquiring firearms for self defense.

We should all have a gun, for protection, and we should all know how to use it.

Think, for a moment, of the final moments of (spoiler alert!) Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. For those not familiar with the work, it’s basically the story of a world where all of the people of talent go on “strike” and allow the parasitic and socialistic state that sought to exploit them to collapse. At the end of the book, the leader of the strike, a singularly talented man named “John Galt,” steps out and, surveying the ruined landscape, draws the sign of the dollar in the air and declares that he and his compatriots are ending their strike and going back into the world. I do not suppose that Galt is planning on holding a vote as to who is going to be in charge of his new world.

This dictatorial character is perhaps the most off-putting feature of the Ron Paul movement. If we cycle back to the questions I asked at the opening of this piece, we can draw only two conclusions from any plausible answers. Either this campaign is a pointless exercise in intellectual frivolity when we can ill-afford such distractions or its adherents are in bitter earnest, in which case we face a problem of an entirely different character.

In an interview with Laura Ingraham, Newt Gingrich raised the possibility of creating an anti-Mitt Romney alliance with Rick Santorum.

Ingraham: Can you see a scenario under which the two of you would align together to try to defeat the establishment candidate, Mitt Romney?

Puplava Interview 2.0 & Squid Squid Squid
Posted by Ann Barnhardt – January 4, AD 2012 1:36 PM MST
I did my second interview with Jim Puplava at FinancialSense.com yesterday and it posted this morning. I think I was actually meaner in this one than I was in the first one. I’m doing my second chat with Warren Pollock tomorrow morning, and will post that as soon as it is up, too.

It is absolutely amazing to me, and frankly awful, that these interviews I do are so popular. Most interviews or radio programs I do wind up being the most popular (or top-three) for their respective program or host. And we talked about my “Going Galt” letter being #6 for ZeroHedge yesterday. Don’t think for a second that I relish in any of this. The truth is, I find it very, very disturbing, as should all of you, that I, relatively insignificant me, am apparently one of the only people in Western Civilization who has the stones to simply state the OBVIOUS OBJECTIVE TRUTH. I am a minor cultural phenomenon because I basically say that one plus one equals two, and I can say it clearly and directly without a bunch of “uhs” and “ums” and “you knows”.

Really? So all a person need do in this culture to be some sort of a hero is be able to string three articulate sentences together which state the obvious? God help us.

I have many detractors who say, “Who the hell is this chick and why the hell do we care what she says?” Yep. I’m right there with you. Where are the billion-dollar fund managers (excepting perhaps Kyle Bass)? Where are the captains and titans of industry? Where are the so-called “leaders”? WHERE IS THE CLERGY??? I’m cynical, but SURELY there must be SOMEONE ELSE who has a brain in their head and a pair in the bag who can speak proper English above a mumble besides me. Anyone? Anyone? My 15 minutes are surely winding down. Someone else is going to have to step up here.

Well, as we all knew and expected, the Squid has its rows of suckers and beaked gaping maw all over the MF Global collapse. It turns out that on October 27th Goldman Sachs bought hundreds of millions of dollars in securities from the imploding MF Global. I’m shocked. Are you shocked, because I’m shocked. I guess Lloyd Blankfein must have just FORGOTTEN TO MENTION IT to anyone. I mean, it’s not like $1.2 billion in “missing” customer seg funds, and a multi-hundred million dollar firesale of paper the day before the customer funds went “missing” is any big deal or could possibly be connected or relevant or anything. Nah.

JP Morgan held the paper, and apparently, if I’m reading this right, the securities changed hands and went to Goldman, but the payment never made it into the MF estate. JP Morgan just “took care of it”, or something. In other words, it’s just a big, incestuous orgy of cephalopod-human psychopathy.

According to the journalists at “Good Morning America,” the day after a social conservative triumphed in Iowa was the right time to aggressively promote a “modern” family consisting of a woman who has sex with two men while raising a child, a bizarre threesome whose rule is to only date inside their “species.”

Without that laundry list of government support (not to mention food stamps, welfare, and a plethora of other “entitlement” and “safety net” wealth transfers), we are told that Americans just cannot hope to “move up the income ladder.” Not only is that a bald-faced lie, but it is a gross insult to all of us — and, yet such thinking forms the basis of those who would rule us as a nanny-state (which includes all the left and, sadly, too much of the right as well).

The Times’ assertion is an outright lie because tens of millions of Americans, both native-born and foreign-born, have utterly disproved it over more than two centuries — and tens of millions continue to disprove that lie to the extent that the government stays off their backs.

It is an insult to all of us whose forbears, including mine, worked hard and thrived without the kind of government spending enumerated — not one single item of which, incidentally, is provided for, or even mentioned, in the U.S. Constitution.

The left-liberals insult my own grandmother and her sisters and brothers, who came to this country before the turn of the (20th) century, possessing very little and unable to speak much English. Every single one of them made decent middle-class lives and raised their families here without special education beyond the normal public schooling, without heating assistance, without government-furnished nutrition, without “job training” beyond what was available for free in the public high schools — and, while we’re on the subject, without subsidized housing, government health insurance, relief from the necessity of learning English, “environmental protection,” or paybacks to the state of part of the money previously taken from it by Washington.

Shame on WordPress indeed. The Religion of Perpetual Umbrage chips away at the Constitution of the United States with the cooperation of its victims. This also appears to be part of a larger effort to take on Lowe’s for dropping its TLC sponsorship.

Even though CAIR has a history of fabricating hate crimes one can expect the Hamas-linked organization to continue its efforts to Islamify the United States. It’s next most recent achievement is to force the JROTC to allow the wearing of Islamic headwear while in uniform . Meanwhile we kuffar still are threatened with incarceration for using the words “join in prayer,” “bow their heads,” “amen,” and “prayer,” “invocation” and “benediction” during school events.
