The Iranian leader will arrive in Caracas late Sunday, kicking off a five-day trip that will on Tuesday see him attend the inauguration of the recently re-elected Nicaraguan leader Daniel Ortega.

Stops in Cuba and Ecuador will round off the tour. All four Latin American countries have frosty ties with the United States and their leaders have in the past four years made numerous visits to Tehran to build up diplomatic and business links while relations with Washington have worsened.

Members of a radical Muslim sect attacked a church in northeast Nigeria during a worship service, part of a series of assaults that killed at least 13 people, authorities said Saturday.

The church shooting came as Boko Haram members attacked a beauty salon and fought government forces Friday night as part of its continuing sectarian battle against Nigeria’s weak central government. In the last few days alone, the group has killed at least 44 people, despite the oil-rich nation’s president declaring a state of emergency in regions hit by the sect.

Documents released in a classic Friday afternoon news dump show that labor unions representing 543,812 workers received waivers from President Barack Obama‘s signature legislation since June 17, 2011.

By contrast, private employers with a total of 69,813 employees, many of whom work for small businesses, were granted waivers.

The Obamas are caricatures: 90+ golf games, lavish vacations on the taxpayers’ dime, $540 Lanvin tennis shoes, $2,000 sundresses, and much, much more . . .

January 4, 2012. Washington. In a shocking and unprecedented move last week, the Obama administration reversed the nation’s illegal immigration policy. On December 29, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced new measures in dealing with illegal immigrants. Instead of accepting custody of illegal aliens for deportation, ICE will now only accept illegal immigrants who have been arrested, tried and convicted of a separate criminal offense. In short, illegal immigration is no longer considered a crime by the Federal government.

Free market capitalism is relatively new in human history. Prior to the rise of capitalism, the way people amassed great wealth was by looting, plundering and enslaving their fellow man. Capitalism made it possible to become wealthy by serving one’s fellow man. Capitalists seek to discover what people want and then produce it as efficiently as possible. Free market capitalism is ruthless in its profit and loss discipline. This explains much of the hostility toward free market capitalism; some of it is held by businessmen. Smith recognized this hostility when he said, “People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices.” He was hinting at government-backed crony capitalism, which has come to characterize much of today’s businesses

The Wall Street occupiers and their media and political allies are not against the principle of crony capitalism, bailouts and government special privileges and intervention. They share the same hostility to free market capitalism and peaceable voluntary exchange as tyrants. What they really want is congressional permission to share in the booty from looting their fellow man.

    I love Clarense Thomas
“Oh really?” asked Serrano. “So you haven’t answered the one about whether I can serve as president, but you answer this one?”
“We’re evading that one,” answered Thomas, referring to questions of presidential eligibility and prompting laughter in the chamber. “We’re giving you another option.”

It is in fact the only strategy that can work for candidate Romney. No matter how long they stand beside him looking into the mirror repeating reaffirming phrase to themselves he is still only going to be Mr. 25%. They know this so the plan all along has been to basically wear the conservative base down till they throw up their hands and say “Screw it!”, just give up, and commit themselves once again to dragging their unenthusiastic butts down to the polls pulling the lever for a person they do not believe in hoping that next time they get someone they can be enthusiastic about.

White guilt got Barack Obama the nomination. White guilt got Barack Obama into the White House. At least it was a big part of it…

As with so many things circling the Obama administration, there is the official announcement of a departing official – and there is the as yet unknown truth behind that departure. Laurie Robinson’s departure was quietly announced on the eve of the Iowa Caucus, with a brief statement from Eric Holdler’s office

      Jan 07, 2012 @ 13:05:36

And guess who Laurie Robinson is connected to? None other than George Soros and his Open Society organization. Robinson served on the board of an entity named the Gideon Project in 2002 whose goal is described as follows:

The Gideon Project funded initiatives to protect the rights of individuals at all levels of the criminal justice systems. The project had three funding priorities: achieving death penalty reform or abolition, improving public defense services, and combating racial profiling.

Mark Steyn weighs in eloquently on the zombified Left’s creepy, soulless attack on Rick Santorum. Just a bit:

Two weeks ago I wrote in this space: “A nation, a society, a community is a compact between past, present and future.” Whatever my disagreements with Santorum on his “compassionate conservatism,” he gets that. He understands that our fiscal bankruptcy is a symptom rather than the cause.

The real wickedness of Big Government is that it debauches not merely a nation’s finances but, ultimately, its human capital – or, as he puts it, you cannot have a strong economy without strong families.

Santorum’s respect for all life, including even the smallest bleakest meanest two-hour life, speaks well for him, especially in comparison with his fellow Pennsylvanian, the accused mass murderer Kermit Gosnell, an industrial-scale abortionist at a Philadelphia charnel house who plunged scissors into the spinal cords of healthy delivered babies. Few of Gosnell’s employees seemed to find anything “weird” about that: Indeed, they helped him out by tossing their remains in jars and bags piled up in freezers and cupboards. Much less crazy than taking ’em home and holding a funeral, right?

      Jan 07, 2012 @ 13:09:09

It doesn’t extend to conservatives or dead babies.

        Jan 07, 2012 @ 13:14:42

The short life of Gabriel Santorum would seem a curious priority for political discourse at a time when the Brokest Nation in History is hurtling toward its rendezvous with destiny. But needs must, and victory by any means necessary. In 2008, the Left gleefully mocked Sarah Palin’s live baby. It was only a matter of time before they moved on to a dead one.

Indeed, flaunting their empathy is what got Eugene Robinson and many others their Pulitzers — Robinson describes his newspaper column as “a license to feel.” Yet he’s entirely incapable of imagining how it must feel for a parent to experience within the same day both new life and death — or even to understand that the inability to imagine being in that situation ought to prompt a little circumspection.

      • Kim
        Jan 07, 2012 @ 13:20:58

Albeit less dramatically than “Doctor” Gosnell, much of the developed world has ruptured the compact between past, present, and future. A spendthrift life of self-gratification is one thing. A spendthrift life paid for by burdening insufficient numbers of children and grandchildren with crippling debt they can never pay off is utterly contemptible. And to too many of America’s politico-media establishment it’s not in the least bit “weird.”

A New Jersey doctor charged with murder last week for performing several late-term abortions in Maryland had once operated an abortion clinic in Albany County at which state investigators discovered 17 frozen fetuses in 1996.

The discovery was part of a broader investigation by the New York attorney general’s office, which declined to pursue criminal charges related to allegations that late-term abortions, in violation of New York’s fetal homicide law, were being performed at the Colonie clinic then owned by Dr. Steven Chase Brigham.

An Iranian ayatollah has said that the social networking service Facebook was un-Islamic and being a member of it a sin, the ISNA news agency reported Saturday.

In Iran, it is common for senior clerics to be asked about their stance on certain social issues and whether these issues are compatible with Islamic norms.

Their answers are regarded as a form of decree.

The government of Iran, on Wednesday, introduced a new rule under which the residents of Iran must give their name along with their father’s name, telephone number, address and national ID to log in to access internet, reported UPI.

Two not so all-American Muslim women whine about being misunderstood by non-Muslims. Well, here’s a bulletin: we know more about your stinking so-called religion than we ever wanted to know.

But maybe you could tell us why you have to wash your dirty feet in public restroom sinks where we wash our hands? As for your wearing of headbags (hijabs), the two of you would do the world a favor if you wore the full face-covering veil – niqab.

I’ve probably known thousands, maybe tens of thousands of Black Americans over the years. Some are my family, some are friends, many I’ve shared a community with, and some I’ve served. I have never met one Black person who doesn’t have some form of identification, be it a birth certificate, driver’s licence or state non-driver i.d. Even my 80 year old aunt who was born without a birth certificate has a license! In fact, my aunt doesn’t even truly know her real birthday. She isn’t even sure if her name actually is what we call her or just a distortion of her birth name due to the Black Michagander dialect…but she drives, has a bank account and uses Medicare – all things she needs her licence to access.

News flash for Mr. Knight: Mrs. Obama is First Lady of the United States. Comparing her to a queen does not suggest she is “uppity” – she is already socially and politically very powerful. Isn’t a comparison to a queen to opposite of “demeaning”? Comparing her to a socially inferior (insert demeaning stereotype of blacks here) might be regarded as demeaning. Only if one believes that black people are hopelessly inferior could one find a racial implication in comparing her to a queen. Knight has outed his own racism.

What is being criticized is behavior, not racial status. The satire would be equally telling if delivered against an imperious, profligate white first lady, quite obviously.

Oh sons of Palestine, oh sons of the Gaza Strip, oh mujahideen – wage Jihad, wreak destruction, blow up and harvest the heads of the Zionists. Words are useless by now. The lie of peace is gone. Only weapons are of any use – the path of [recently killed] Yousuf and Ali, the path of martyrdom and Jihad. Only our wounds talk on our behalf. We speak nothing but the language of struggle, of Jihad, or rockets, of bombs, of cannons and of martyrdom-seekers. This is the language in which we talk and negotiate with the Zionist enemy.

A clash between police and protesters Saturday night ended with six protesters arrested, windows broken in a Starbucks coffee shop and a handful of police cars, and Occupy Oakland organizers promising more action opposed to police violence.

A crowd estimated at between 200 and 300 people began marching around 8 p.m. at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, which has served as a rallying point and occasional camping ground for Occupy protesters.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez lavished each other with praise on Monday, mocked U.S. disapproval and joked about having an atomic bomb at their disposal.

“Despite those arrogant people who do not wish us to be together, we will unite forever,” the Iranian president told Venezuela’s socialist leader Chavez at the start of a visit to four left-leaning Latin American nations.

Despite their geographical distance, the fiery anti-U.S. ideologues have forged increasingly close ties between their fellow OPEC nations in recent years, although concrete projects have often lagged behind the rhetoric.
