Christmas cookies!

God’s Angel was teasing me all last week with her baking skills and it got me to wondering – what is your favorite Christmas cookie? Do you have traditions surrounding them?

    Hi Kim! One cookie in particular came to mind the minute I read this. As a kid, my mom made Pinwheel Cookies which consisted of 2 rolled out sugar cookie sheets, one with red food coloring added to make it pink. Stack the two sheets atop each other and roll up together. After slicing the roll, the cookies totally resembled Pinwheels. As a kid I always expected the pink part to taste different from the white, which of course it did not. Thanks for the childhood memory! What’s your favorite cookie?

    Those sound fun and easy!
    Mine was a cookie my Mom made call German chocolate – I have been searching for the recipe for a week now!! They were so good they had to be hidden until Christmas day!!

    KIM LOL I LOVE ALL THE COOKIES THE BEST IS JUST MAKEING THEM WITH THE KIDS MAKES ME FEEL LIKE A LITTLE GIRL AGAIN BUT I THINK THE ONE I REALLY LIKE THE MOST IS THE SUGAR COOKIE AND SANTA GET THEM EVERY YEAR.

    I remember as a kid we always put out a plate of cookies for Santa but our Santa didn’t like milk so we had to put out a beer!

    Here ya go, Kim, wonderful fruit cookies-so much better than fruit cake!

    Ninny’s Fruit Cookies

    Preheat oven to 325
    Sifr ALL dry ingredients together
    Mince and add fruit to dough last
    Spoon onto lightly buttered cookie sheet

    1 stick butter
    1 & 3/4 cup sugar
    1 teasp vanilla
    1 teasp almond extract
    3 eggs
    3 cup self rising flour
    1 teasp nutmeg
    1/2 teasp soda
    1 teasp cinnamon

    1 lb dates (candied)

    1 lb cherries (candied)

    1 lb pineapple (candied)

    1 lb pecans

    Makes 8 doz cookies. If you wish, you may cut entire recipe in half, for 4 dozen.

    Suzie – I make those pinwheel cookies!!!! lol

    my fav are Starlight Sugar Twists. You keep folding the dough over making many light flaky layers & you apply a sugar & vanilla mixture on each layer. then cut into 4 inch strips & twist & bake. oh yeah!

    I also make these sour cream crescent cookies that have cinnamon/sugar & walnuts rolled up into them. I’ve seen my friends figth over these! hahahahahahahhaha

    I used to make thousands of cookies & gave as gifts in tins or platters, but i’ve had to cut that way back now. I can’t do those 3 day baking marathons anymore!

    this may be it!!!!

    2 pkg. (8 squares each) BAKER’S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, divided
    1/4 cup butter, softened
    3/4 cup packed brown sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 cup flour
    1/4 tsp. CALUMET Baking Powder
    2 cups chopped PLANTERS Walnuts
    Make It

    HEAT oven to 350°F.

    CHOP 8 chocolate squares; set aside. Microwave remaining 8 chocolate squares in large microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2 min., stirring after 1 min. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Add butter; stir until melted. Stir in sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add flour and baking powder; mix well. Stir in chopped chocolate and nuts. (Note: If omitting nuts, increase flour to 3/4 cup to prevent excessive spreading of cookies as they bake.)

    DROP rounded tablespoonfuls of dough, 2 inches apart, onto baking sheets.

    BAKE 12 to 13 min. or until cookies are puffed and shiny. Cool 1 min.; remove from baking sheets to wire racks. Cool completely.

    This week I’ll be busy baking and stuff. Instead of buying gifts for everyone, I’m baking up some pumpkin bread, sugar cookies, and making peanut butter fudge and mint chocolate fudge, and packaging them…our families LOVE that stuff!
